What happened to KPMG?

Massive layoffs occurred at KPMG two days before the start of their 2021 fiscal year, affecting approximately 1,400 employees, which is less than 4% of their workforce.

How did KPMG layoffs affect its advisory practice?

Approximately 700 people who worked in KPMG's U.S. advisory practice were laid off on Feb. 15. The Big Four firm made this decision to "better align our workforce with current and anticipated demand in the market", according to its head of advisory.

Why is KPMG laying off employees?

KPMG is laying off hundreds of employees in its U.S. auditing business as it works to make up for lower levels of voluntary turnover. The Big Four accounting firm last week notified about 330 people, or nearly 4% of its roughly 9,000-person U.S. audit workforce, that they would be let go in the coming weeks, people familiar with the matter said.
